I’VE GOT 99 PROBLEMS – BUT SOCIAL MEDIA DOESN’T HAVE TO BE ONE

The other day I read an Instagram post, which really got stuck inside my head. It was from a friend of mine, whom expressed how important she believes it is to be yourself on social media – whether it generates like or not. As a starting point, I see where she is coming from. Also, I find it to be a very interesting debate that has gotten a lot of attention in relation to the rise of social media. About how hard it can be to live up to the expectations of the perfect world, which we are all trying to take part in. However, I’d argue that these expectations existed long before social media became a thing.

Of course, there are many things to improve, adjust or even remove from the various social media sites. But, as this is not possible for us as single individuals to fix this, we can work towards getting the best out of the different platforms ourselves, while simultaneously shutting out the bad energies (by for example unfollowing the people giving you a bad conscience, etc.).

On a personal level, social media have given me not only the opportunity to dream, but also the courage to work towards my dreams. YouTube is a place in which I continually find inspiration, learn a lot of new things and also develop myself. I believe that my big interest in the various media platforms have helped making me capable of having a more nuanced view towards what I see online. When I see a picture of a perfect girl, I don’t get angry, thinking she’s trying to make the world a worse place. Instead, I admire her because I know how much work and dedication she has put into her photos. I tell myself, that she has probably taken 100 photos just to get three decent ones, which she afterwards has put several hours into retouching. All of this, in order for the pictures to be as magical as she wished for, and for the photos to play together in harmony with her existing portfolio on Instagram. I also let myself know, that even though she looks happy in the moment the picture was taken, she (just as everyone else) has bad days, in which she feels insecure about herself.

Of course, she could also post pictures of when she’s feeling down. But I don’t believe she has to, as we all should naturally be aware that she is human like the rest of us and possesses the same feelings. Personally, I would be incredibly sad if people would demand that I walk down the main shopping street of Copenhagen while crying. For that very same reason, I would not criticize the ones who refuse to put up these types of pictures onto their social media. Of course, I have a great amount of respect for those who do – but do know, that you should not feel forced to do make these posts. The reason being, that we already know you cry like the rest of us.

I’m writing this post, as I’m afraid some people might sit at home and blame me for making the world a worse place, due to me retouching my photos and not crying on a livestream. That I’m being accused of being superficial and fake. To you who follow me, know that the purpose of my channels is to inspire as many as I can to both dream and to start working towards these dreams of yours. To show that hard work can generate impressive results – no matter what you are working on, or which genre of work you are working within. But don’t for one second believe that I don’t have bad days in which I feel insecure about myself. We all do!

// Jeg læste forleden dag et instagram post, der virkelig satte sig fast i mit hoved. Min veninde udtrykte bl.a. hvordan hun er sig selv på instagram, uanset om det genererer likes eller ej. Jeg forstår som udgangspunkt godt, hvor hendes tankegang kommer fra og jeg synes det er en meget interessant debat, der er opstået i forbindelse med hele den sociale medieverden. Om hvor svært det kan være at leve op til den perfekte verden vi alle sammen prøver at blive en del af. I stedet vil jeg påstå, at det perfekte ideal eksisterede længe før de sociale medier.

Der er sikkert et utal af ting man kan forbedre, lave om eller helt bør fjerne på de sociale medier. Da dette ikke er op til det enkelte individ, kan man i stedet arbejde på at få det bedste ud af dem samtidig med at lukke ned for det som skaber dårlig energi for én selv (fx unfollow dem som giver dig dårlig samvittighed eller giver dig dårlige følelser omkring dig selv).

Personligt har de sociale medier givet mig mulighed for at drømme og ikke mindst at turde gå efter mine egne drømme. Youtube er et sted hvor jeg finder inspiration, hvor jeg lærer og udvikler mig. Jeg tror, at min store interesse for de forskellige medieplatforme har gjort, at jeg er i stand til at forholde mig meget realistisk i forhold til dem. Når jeg ser et billede af en perfekt pige, bliver jeg ikke sur og tænker, at hun er med til at gøre verden til et dårligere sted. Jeg beundrer hende, fordi jeg ved, hvor meget arbejde og dedikation, hun har lagt i sit billede. Jeg siger til mig selv, at hun sikkert har taget 100 billeder for at få 3 nogenlunde, og efterfølgende har lagt et par timers arbejde for at gøre de 3 billeder magiske således at de lever op til hendes egen vision og den billedeportefølje hun allerede har oparbejdet på instagram. Jeg siger også til mig selv, at selvom hun ser glad ud på billedet, har hun med garanti også dårlige dage hvor hun føler sig usikker på sig selv.

Selvfølgelig kan hun også poste billeder, hvor hun er ked af det, men det behøver hun ikke, fordi vi ved at hun er menneskelig og at hun besidder de samme følelser som os selv. Jeg ville blive ked af det, hvis nogle forlangte af mig, at jeg skulle gå grædende ned gennem Strøget i København. Derfor vil jeg ikke klantre folk for, at de ikke vil lægge denne type billeder på deres sociale medier. Men til de der gør det, har jeg stor respekt. I skal dog vide, at I ikke behøver at gøre det, fordi vi ved allerede at I også græder ligesom os selv.

Jeg skriver, fordi jeg er bange for, at der sidder nogle derhjemme og klandrer mig for at gøre verden til et dårligere sted, fordi jeg redigerer mine billeder og ikke græder på livestream – at jeg bliver betegnet som overfladisk og fake. Til jer der følger mig, skal I vide, at formålet med mine kanaler er at give inspiration til at drømme og ikke mindst til at gå efter sine drømme. Til at vise, at hårdt arbejde kan generere flotte resultater – uanset hvad man arbejder på og hvilken branche man befinder sig i. Men tro ikke et splitsekund, at jeg ikke har dårlige dage hvor jeg er usikker på mig selv. Det har vi jo alle sammen!

Through the years I have been through my fair share of mascaras. Finally I have found a mascara from SHISEIDO which I really like. It gives you a lot of length and a fair amount of volumen without making your lashes stick together. Mine is called BK901 black.

WHEN YOU SAY ‘I LOVE YOU’ IT MEANS…

“I love you” means that I accept you for the person that you are, and that I do not wish to change you into someone else. It means that I will love you and stand by you even through the worst of times. It means loving you even when you’re in a bad mood, or too tired to do the things I want to do. It means loving you when you’re down, not just when you’re fun to be with.

It means that I care enough to fight for what we have and that I love you enough not to let go. 5 THINGS I’VE LEARNED NOT TO CARE ABOUT

Tænk ikke på, hvad andre tænker om dig! //Do not focus on what people think about you!

Vi har alle været der, hvor drømme og ønsker er blevet undertrykte, fordi vi har været bange for diverse fordømmelser og fordomme fra vores venner og bekendte. Men hvad de fleste af os ikke tænker på, og hvad der ikke bliver italesat er, at flertallet af dem med fordomme og fordømmelser faktisk i smug beundrer dem der tør følge deres egne drømme. Du skal derfor ikke tænkte så meget på, hvad folk tænker om dig. Uanset hvad du gør i livet, vil folk have en holdning til dig, så du kan ligeså godt følge dine drømme og lade dem beundre dig for det!

//We’ve all been in a place, in which our dreams and wishes have been suppressed due to a fright of being judged by friends, acquaintances and peers. However, most of us forget an important factor which is usually not talked about, which is that a majority of these people actually admire those who dare to follow their dreams. They just do it in secrecy. Knowing this, you should stop focusing on what people think of you. Since you’re going to be judged by people no matter what you do, you might as well go for your dreams and have them admire you for it!

Det er spild af din tid og tager af den energi, som du skal bruge på at forfølge dine drømme 🙂 Du har sikkert oplevet, at du gennem tiden sjældent har været helt tilfreds, og måske til tider har været direkte frustreret over dig selv og dit udseende. Lær at elske dig selv og dit unikke ydre. Der er ingen som dig, og derfor ser du ud præcis som du skal. Fokuser i stedet på, hvad der gør dig glad, og kan frembringe den mest selvsikre version af dig selv.

//It’s a waste of your time and energy, which should instead be used to pursue your dreams J You have most likely experienced, that throughout your life you have rarely been completely satisfied and might even at times have been straight out frustrated with how you look. Learn to love yourself and your unique appearance. There is no one like you, and consequently you look exactly the way you’re meant to. Instead, focus on what makes you happy, and what makes you the best version of you.  

Tænk ikke, at et 12-tal er det vigtigste i verden! //Don’t believe that an A is the most important thing in the world!

Selvfølgelig er det godt at have mål, og det kan ligefrem være en god ting at sætte baren højt, hvor du oplever dine spidskompetencer. Men husk nu på, at du ikke er lige stærk på alle områder, og derfor ikke kan forvente at der skal præsteres lige godt på alle områder. Jeg har en meget stærk tro på, at hvis man går efter sine drømme og ønsker, kan et manglende 12-tal på karakterbeviset ikke stoppe én fra at få disse til at gå i opfyldelse. Lad derfor være med at tro, at et 12-tal er det vigtigste i verden, da alt for meget fokus på 12-taller – som det endelige mål – giver en tunnelvision. Dermed oplever du ikke alle de andre muligheder, som livet byder på i mellemtiden.

// Of course, it’s a good thing to have goals, and it might even be a good idea to set the bar high in your best performing areas. But do keep in mind that no one is equally strong in every field; hence you cannot expect to perform that way. I have a strong belief that if you pursue your dreams, a missing A on your diploma will not keep you from realizing these and making them come true. So, stop believing that an A on your paper is the most important thing in the world. Too much focus on straight A’s will give you a tunnel vision and because of that you will be missing out of all the other opportunities that comes your way.

Tænk ikke (alt) for meget over hvad du spiser! //Do not think (too much) about what you eat!

Lad være med at sætte alt for mange regler op for dig selv og dine madvaner. Det er selvfølgelig helt i orden at have nogle overordnede retningslinjer og grundprincipper, men husk, at regler er til at for at blive brudt! Lige så snart du siger til dig selv, at der er noget du ikke må spise, opstår der en enorm lyst til at indtage lige netop dette. Anvend i stedet for en guideline som eks. 80/20 princippet. Dette består i, at 80% af din livsstil munder ud i sunde tiltag, og de sidste 20% er til alt det ’usunde’. Med et sådant princip i dit baghoved, tillader du dig selv at spise for at leve og ikke leve for at spise.

//Don’t create a large set of rules for yourself and your food habits. Naturally, it is fine to have some broad guidelines and basic principles, but keep in mind that rules are meant to be broken! As soon as you tell yourself you cannot eat something, it will almost inevitably result in a desire to eat that specific thing. Instead, use a guideline such as the 80/20 principle. This means, that 80% of your lifestyle should consist of healthy habits, and 20% is for all the ‘unhealthy’ stuff. With this in mind, you will eat in order to live, instead of live in order to eat.

Tænk ikke alt for meget over bekymringer! //Don’t worry too much!

Ofte opstår bekymringer før du befinder dig i den reelle situation. Vores tanker vandrer mod alle de ting der kan gå galt, og trods mangel på matematiske evner, kan alle hurtigt regne sig frem til, at oddsene helt sikker er imod os i den pågældende situation. Bliver vi gjort til grin? Vil vi fejle? Er vi fiaskoer? Disse og lignende spørgsmål går igennem hovedet, mens vi vurderer om det er værd at tage chancen. Ofte lader vi vores bekymringer komme imellem os og vores drømme. Hvis ‘magten’ tages fra disse bekymringer, er vi allerede et kæmpe skridt tættere på en mere harmonisk hverdag, fyldt med ønsker og drømme der får plads til at blomstre.

//Worries tend to make their appearance before you find yourself in the actual situation in which they apply. Our thoughts wander towards what can go wrong, and despite a lack of mathematical abilities, everyone can get to the conclusion that a specific scenario is terrible. Will we be a laughing stock? Will we fail? Is it worth the trouble? These, and questions like them, troubles our minds as we evaluate whether or not to take the chance. Often, these kinds of worries will create barriers holding us back from realizing our dreams. However, if we refuse to let worries dictate and influence our decision making, we will be on a path towards a more harmonic life, in which your dreams will have the ability to flourish and prosper. 

MY WORK DESK HAPPINESS

For mig er en arbejdsplads ikke blot et klinisk bord og en kontorstol der passer i højden. Det er et sted, hvor inspirationen opstår til billeder, tekster, og meget mere. Jeg har altid været en fan af små detaljer, da det er der ideudviklingen ligger. Derfor omringer jeg mig med blomster, farver, inspirationsblade og musik, når jeg arbejder med bloggen. Ud over at være omgivet af en masse inspirerende elementer, sørger jeg også altid for at have min kalender ved hånden, da det er deri jeg skriver alle mine aftaler samt inspiration til fremtidige blogposts.

Til alle jer der har brug for lidt inspiration i dagligdagen, kan det virkelig anbefales at omgive sig med de personlige ting der gør én glad. Dette gælder ikke kun inspiration til at være kreativ, men blot til at tænke ud af sin egen boks. Da inspiration kan findes i de fleste objekter, er det derfor op til den enkelte, at gennemskue hvad der inspirerer én.

// For me, a work desk is not just a white table with a matching chair. It’s a place where inspiration occurs for images, texts and so much more. I’ve always been a fan of the small details, as that’s where the idea creation lie. Therefore, I surround myself with flowers, colors, inspirational magazines and music when I work with my blog. Besides being surrounded by a lot of inspiring elements, I always have my calendar with me, as that’s where I write down all my appointments as well as my inspiration for future blog posts.

To all of you who need a little inspiration during the day, I would recommend surrounding yourself with the different personal tings that makes you happy. This inspiration tip do not only apply to developing creative skills, but to think outside the box in general. Since inspiration is to be found in almost every object, it’s up to each one of us to figure out what’s inspiring oneself.
